Pharmaceutical name: Azithromycin

Azax is a macrolide antibiotic used for treating infections in the upper and lower respiratory tracts, particularly ear infections and pneumonia. Each Azax tablet contains Azithromycin Dihydrate, which is equivalent to 500mg of Azithromycin. The formulation also includes the following inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate anhydrous, pregelatinized starch, sodium croscarmellose, magnesium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and an aqueous film coat made from hypromellose, titanium dioxide, lactose, and triacetin.
There is currently no evidence indicating whether Azax has any impact on an unborn child or if it is excreted in breast milk. This medication should only be prescribed to pregnant and breastfeeding women if the potential benefits outweigh any possible risks to the baby.
Potential side effects may include diarrhea or loose stools, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, irregular heartbeats, decreased appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice, fever, rash, red skin, and headaches. You should contact your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms or seek immediate medical assistance.
It is not advisable to take Azax with aluminum- or magnesium-based antacids, such as Mylanta or Maalox, as they can reduce its absorption in the intestines.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s nearly time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and return to your regular schedule.
Signs of an overdose may present as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort. In such cases, seek immediate medical care.
